Selena
She was a singer, performer and designer and broke barriers in the world of music. The dual nature of her role as a Mexican American performer was traditional and contemporary. She introduced Tejano to mainstream fame with her innovative approach. Similar to how there are many who mourn a superstar who died too young, her death was untimely and shattered an energizing career. Her fans are working even harder to keep in mind what she has achieved. Selena is the Tejano artist who was tragically shot to death during a shooting incident, sparked an Latino reaction that can be likened to the reaction to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's deaths. Selena was an extremely well-known Latino performer throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and inspired both young people and older adults. Selena has been called by some as an Latina Madonna, however she is still a great character model. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
